How is Sum Assured Calculated?

Sum assured of the insured vehicle is determined at the time of policy commencement. The value is equal to the Insured Declared Value of the insured two-wheeler.

IDV of the Insured Vehicle + Accessories is calculated on the basis of the manufacturer’s selling price of that particular bike model and brand. Depreciation is adjusted from this amount.

Elucidated below is the age-wise depreciation schedule for claims arising due to Total Loss/Constructive Total Loss of the insured vehicle.

Depreciation Schedule for Fixing IDV of the insured Two-Wheeler

Up to 6 months5

Age Of The Vehicle

Depreciation For Fixing IDV (%)

6 months to 1 year 15
1 to 2 Years 20
2 to 3 Years 30
3 to 4 Years 40
4 to 5 Years 50

Vehicles that are more than 5 years old and models that have become obsolete, their IDV is to be determined on the basis of the mutual understanding between the Policyholder and the insurer.

IDV should be considered as the Market Value of the insured bike throughout the policy term without any further depreciation in case of the Total or constructive total loss claims.

The insured two-wheeler is treated as a constructive total loss if the cost of damage repair or retrieval comes out to be more than 75% of the IDV of the insured vehicle.
